The international day of the girl is celebrated every eat on October 11 to amplify girls’ voices and stand up for their rights. This year we invite all partners and followers to celebrate and support the power of girls.
The International Day of girls is celebrated annually on October 11. This year, under the theme, “My voice, Our Equal Future” let’s support the power of girls who are raising their voices, leading movements and challenging status quo. Together, we can seize the opportunity to be inspired by what adolescent girls see as the change they want, the solutions- big and small- they are leading and demanding across the globe. Despite he boundaries and barriers created by stereotypes and exclusion, girls are creating a world that is relevant to them and the future generations.
Why Was The International Day of the Girl Created ?
International Day of the Girl exists to recognise girls right and to addresses the challenges, biases, dangers, and injustices young girls deal with all over the world. It is meant to promote the empowerment of young girls everywhere, while advocating for the attainment of their basic human rights, like education and bodily autonomy.
As adolescent girls worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Day of the Girl 2020 will focus on their demands to:
- Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, and HIV and AIDS
- Learn new skills towards the futures they choose
- Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change
The Impact of Covid-19 In the Life of Girls
The covid-19 pandemic is having enormous negative impacts on the lives of girls. According to UN Women (2020), young women and girls living in poverty, with disabilities or in rural, isolated locations are more likely to be pulled out of school first to compensate for increased care and domestic work at home They are also at more risk of various forms of violence, like child marriage as family find ways to alleviate economic burdens.
There’s no doubt the pandemic has made existing gender inequalities worse, but we mustn’t let things spiral any further. Now more than ever, we believe that girls must be recognised and included in the fight for gender justice so that their collective voices, innovation, and power can fuel movements around the globe.
Support the power of girls it’s what we’re committed to ! Happy International Day of the girl!
I want every girl to know that her voice can change the world !
