Sabah Launches Malaysia’s First NADMA-Funded State Disaster Command Centre
Developed jointly by the State Disaster Management Community and Nadma, the  State Disaster Command Centre (SDCC) would ensure swifter and more coordinated actions in the event of a disaster.
KOTA KINABALU – In a landmark move to bolster disaster preparedness, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on Wednesday inaugurated the State Disaster Command Centre (SDCC), marking the first facility of its kind in Malaysia funded by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

A Milestone in Disaster Management

Agrogra“Developed jointly by the State Disaster Management Community and Nadma, the SDCC would ensure swifter and more coordinated actions in the event of a disaster,” Hajiji said at the opening ceremony held on the fourth floor of Block A, Menara Kinabalu. With a budget of RM750,000 and eight months of construction, the centre represents a significant investment in Sabah’s resilience.
Positioned as an integrated platform, the SDCC will serve to synchronize the efforts of security and rescue agencies, non-governmental organizations and research institutions during emergencies. By centralizing communication and data analysis, the centre aims to eliminate information silos and accelerate decision-making when every second counts.
Equipped with advanced information and communication technology, the SDCC boasts a high-definition video conferencing system and a comprehensive database for real-time disaster intelligence. These tools will enable rapid sharing of situation reports, resource maps and field assessments among stakeholders.

Collaboration Across Agencies

The launch ceremony brought together key figures from Sabah’s public sector and Nadma leadership. Among those present were State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Ariffin Arif; Nadma Deputy Director General Datuk Dr. Abdul Gapar Abu Bakar; State Secretary Datuk Seri Sr. Safar Untong; Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Jauteh Dikun; and Malaysia Civil Defence Sabah Director Mohd Yusoff Samad. Datuk Ag Shahminan Ag Sahari, serving as secretariat to the State Disaster Management Committee, also joined the event.
With its operational centre established, Sabah will focus on regular drills, stakeholder training and protocol refinement to ensure the SDCC functions at full capacity when disaster strikes. As the first Nadma-funded command centre in Malaysia, Sabah’s model may serve as a blueprint for other states seeking to enhance their disaster response frameworks.

By cementing collaboration across government agencies, NGOs and research bodies under one roof, the SDCC promises to deliver faster, more coordinated action—and greater peace of mind—for Sabah’s communities.
