The PV industrial complex will be located in the Batang Regency of Central Java province and will be the largest one of its kind in Southeast Asia.
BATANG, INDONESIA — In a groundbreaking move that signals Indonesia’s growing role in the global renewable energy market, American solar panel giant SEG Solar has announced a massive investment of Rp7.6 trillion ($500 million) to build a state-of-the-art photovoltaic industrial hub in Central Java. The ambitious project, set in the Integrated Industrial Zone of Batang, will soon host the largest solar panel production facility in Indonesia, aiming to power the nation’s energy transformation while also contributing to the global supply chain.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

A Vision for a Greener Future

This monumental investment by SEG Solar, a leading U.S.-based solar panel manufacturer, represents more than just a financial commitment—it’s a bold step toward Indonesia’s future as a renewable energy leader. The sprawling Batang industrial complex, once completed, will have the capacity to produce 5 gigawatts (GW) of solar panels annually, covering the entire supply chain from silicon ingot production to wafer, cell, and finished solar panels.
For Indonesia, this means more than just a technological leap. It’s a strategic alignment with global efforts to combat climate change. As Indonesia works to meet its national renewable energy goals and reduce carbon emissions, this new facility is set to play a pivotal role.

“By investing in Indonesia’s clean energy future, we are not only contributing to local job creation but also helping the nation meet its ambitious targets for carbon reduction,” said a spokesperson for SEG Solar. “Our vision for Batang is to transform it into Southeast Asia’s largest solar production hub, which will benefit the local community, the national economy, and the global fight against climate change.”

Local Impact: Job Creation and Economic Growth

At the heart of the investment is its potential to create significant positive change for the people of Batang, a region poised for economic growth. The integrated solar manufacturing hub is expected to create more than 3,000 local jobs, providing opportunities across a range of skill levels and helping uplift the local community.
Beyond boosting the economy, the presence of a major renewable energy production facility also aligns with Indonesia’s goal to increase its renewable energy capacity. This will help the nation achieve its net-zero emissions target, all while fostering sustainable economic growth.

By integrating vertical production capabilities, SEG Solar ensures a high level of supply chain sustainability and transparency. This will allow the company to meet the increasing global demand for solar panels while maintaining its commitment to green manufacturing practices.

The first phase of the solar production facility’s construction is expected to be completed by Q2 2025, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia’s green energy journey.

Once operational, the factory will produce an impressive volume of solar panels, enough to power homes, businesses, and industries across Indonesia. As the world increasingly turns toward renewable energy sources, Indonesia, through projects like this, is positioning itself as a key player in Southeast Asia’s green energy future.

A Boost for Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Leadership

The Indonesian government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions is evident, with ambitious targets of sourcing 23% of its energy from renewables by 2025 and a further push toward 50% by 2040. These targets align with global efforts to combat climate change, and SEG Solar’s new facility will help the nation take a giant leap toward achieving these goals.

By establishing Indonesia’s largest solar production facility, SEG Solar is also helping the country move toward its net-zero goals, strengthening its position as a leader in sustainable energy development in Southeast Asia.
