In a significant push toward climate-smart farming, Wavemaker Impact, the climate-tech venture builder under Wavemaker Partners, has launched Zentide, a startup dedicated to developing seaweed-based biostimulants and biofertilizers. With an initial investment of USD 525,000 (approximately IDR 8.6 billion), Zentide aims to revolutionize agriculture by reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers, enhancing soil health, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

Harnessing the Power of Seaweed for Regenerative Farming

Led by CEO Zachary Nice, Zentide utilizes tropical seaweed—a renewable and highly efficient biomass source—to formulate biofertilizers and biostimulants that can rejuvenate degraded soils and foster sustainable agricultural practices. Given the rapid growth and carbon-sequestering properties of seaweed, these products offer a natural, climate-friendly alternative to conventional farming inputs.
Based in Jakarta, Zentide is positioned to address critical agricultural issues in Southeast Asia, including soil degradation and the excessive use of chemical fertilizers. These challenges not only affect crop yields and farmer livelihoods but also contribute significantly to environmental degradation.
By leveraging nature-based solutions, Zentide seeks to:
  • Improve soil fertility with organic, nutrient-rich seaweed extracts.

  • Reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers, minimizing harmful runoff into waterways.

  • Lower agricultural emissions, aligning with global climate goals.

  • Empower smallholder farmers with cost-effective, sustainable solutions

Scaling Up in Indonesia and Beyond

With Wavemaker Impact’s backing, Zentide plans to expand its footprint in Indonesia, one of the world’s largest agricultural economies. The company is also actively seeking strategic partnerships to enhance its supply chain, scale production, and integrate its biostimulants into mainstream farming practices.
This investment underscores Wavemaker Impact’s commitment to fostering climate-tech startups with scalable solutions. As Zentide progresses, its innovations could serve as a model for the broader agricultural sector, demonstrating how nature-based technologies can play a vital role in sustainable food production.

By transforming seaweed into a key asset for regenerative farming, Zentide is not only redefining agricultural inputs but also positioning itself at the forefront of a greener, more resilient food system in Southeast Asia and beyond.
