Virtual Event : The Covid-19 Crisis “How Were Our Youths Impacted ? ”
Since COVID-19 has inflicted social and economic woes to youths and their households. Beyond the widely shared social and economic impact, COVID-19 has impacted the mental health of youths as they adjusted to new dynamics in their households as well as educational or career environments.
In the first part of the webinar, the research team at Soristic Asia will be sharing on how youths have been impacted by COVID-19, in particular the impacts on education, economic, social and mental front. Earlier this year, Soristic conducted a survey to find out how youths were impacted and they will be sharing our findings in this webinar.
In the next half of the webinar, we will be joined by selected speakers to take a closer look at the mental health challenges faced by youths as well as share ways on how youths can seek help.
The Speakers
Cheryl Giam, Samaritans of Singapore
Cheryl serves in the capacity of a Provisional Counsellor with SOS. She is involved with supporting clients with suicide ideation through the various services including emails, phone calls and face-to-face counselling intervention. Her prior experiences include case management for tertiary students with disciplinary and rehabilitation issues; as well the enforcement of safety and protection of children and young persons in Singapore.
Khoo Yi Feng
Yi Feng has been called “the Mental Health Guy” by friends for doing “everything with mental health” for the past 10 years. As a youth mental health professional , he helps young people in mental health distress in Singapore gain clarity on their experiences. Trained in social work, psychology and Southeast Asian Studies, he believes in the strengths of youths and partnering with youths to improve the well being of all youths in Southeast Asia.
