Singapore launches 2 electric motorcycle battery swap and charging stations

Two battery swap-and-charge stations for electric motorcycles were launched by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to encourage cleaner-energy vehicles.
Trial sandboxes run by Taiwan-based Gogoro and Singapore-based MO Batteries will enable depleted electric motorcycle batteries to be swapped for fully charged ones within seconds. The sandboxes will be primarily used for deliveries.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

The regulatory sandbox with Gogoro will involve 20 electric motorcycles and 100 swappable batteries at two Gogoro GoStations, and MO Batteries will have six electric motorcycles with 30 swappable batteries, 14 chargers and two battery storage and swap stations, said an LTA spokesperson.
This battery swapping pilot will include GOGORO smartscooters, GOGORO GoStation Battery Swap Stations, and GOGORO Smart Batteries. Cycle & Carriage will manage GOGORO’s battery swapping network and vehicle fleets in Singapore. As part of Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, Cycle& Carriage will also explore ways to work with various food delivery and logistics fleets in the country.

"Cities are in desperate need of sustainable transportation solutions, not just for consumers, but for businesses. Gogoro battery swapping provides a sustainable path for urban fleets that is safe, reliable, scalable and always available".

The trials will begin in the coming weeks and run for 12 months.
