Meet Alfaz, The Indonesian Artist Creating Fashion From Upcycled Keyboards.
A rising star in Indonesia, located an hour away from Jakarta in Bogor City, combines art and fashion in a unique way. Alfaz, also known as skatesuckers, has been repurposing keyboards into wearable pieces of art for just one year. At only 26 years old, Alfaz is giving new purpose to electronic waste by creating his signature balaclava, gloves, slides, sunglasses, and vest using old keycaps.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

Alfaz, A.k.a Skatesuckers, Creator of Button Network

When he’s not skateboarding or making films, Alfaz can be found scouring junkyards for old keyboards. His one-of-a-kind art projects under the Button Network label have sold out quickly, and his first solo exhibition was a huge success. We recently invited Alfaz to our studio to learn more about his recent global success and find out what’s next for the Button Network.

Alfaz began his artistic journey with keyboards and art in 2022, inspired by his fascination with upcycled fashion and his prior studies in reworked clothing and accessories. Although he aspires to create full garments, he is still honing my sewing machine skills. “My creative spark was ignited after stumbling upon a pair of slides on Pinterest adorned with keycaps, which, although not practical, was intriguing. This led me to create my own wearable version and share it on Instagram, where someone suggested I reach out to a fashion and art-focused account. To my surprise, my piece was reshared and garnered a lot of likes, prompting me to create more items such as gloves, balaclavas, shoes, and sunglasses” said Alfaz.

Button Network serves as Alfaz’s platform to sell his handmade limited edition pieces, where customers can also make custom orders or collaborate with him. Through Button Network, I have connected with renowned names in the industry such as Higround, The Anti Order, Amun Starr, and Beazt ID Shoes.
