Indonesia’s first algae-powered photobioreactor bus stop in the Alam Sutera area was inaugurated in front of the Synergy Building in Alam Sutera on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
In a groundbreaking initiative, PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk has teamed up with biotechnology company Bioniqa to introduce Indonesia’s first bus terminal powered by an algae-based photobioreactor. This innovative project marks a significant step toward sustainable infrastructure and highlights the potential of algae-based solutions in addressing environmental challenges, particularly air quality.
RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS
The bus stop, aptly named “Halte Synergy,” was inaugurated in front of the Synergy Building in Alam Sutera on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The launch event was attended by Alam Sutera’s tenants, along with management representatives and the board of directors of PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk.
Harnessing Algae to Combat Carbon Emissions
Andri Tedjajana, Township Division Head at Alam Sutera, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “Collaborating with Bioniqa, we proudly present Indonesia’s first algae-powered photobioreactor bus stop as part of this innovative and sustainable project. As a property developer committed to improving the quality of life for our residents and surrounding communities, this project aligns perfectly with our vision.”
Located in front of the Synergy Building on Jalan Jalur Sutera Barat, Alam Sutera, this bus stop integrates cutting-edge photobioreactor technology that harnesses algae to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and produce clean energy. The innovative approach not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also creates a healthier and more pleasant environment for the community with a comfortable bus stop concept.
Advanced Technology for Cleaner Air
Andri Tedjajana, Township Division Head at Alam Sutera, expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “Collaborating with Bioniqa, we proudly present Indonesia’s first algae-powered photobioreactor bus stop as part of this innovative and sustainable project. As a property developer committed to improving the quality of life for our residents and surrounding communities, this project aligns perfectly with our vision.”
As algae undergo photosynthesis, they convert the absorbed CO2 into oxygen (O2), releasing it back into the environment. The Bioniqa system produces an amount of oxygen equivalent to that of 150 medium-sized trees. This substantial oxygen production improves air quality, contributing to a healthier atmosphere in the surrounding area
A Vision for Long-Term Environmental Impact
“We are extremely proud to launch Indonesia’s first algae-powered photobioreactor bus stop in the Alam Sutera area. This collaboration is a step toward a healthier environment, blending environmental benefits with aesthetic design for long-term community enjoyment,” said Araf Anbiya, Chief Commercial Officer of Bioniqa.
Anbiya added, “We hope that this innovative first step can be sustainably implemented in other areas across Indonesia to support environmental health by integrating technology with a comfortable and useful waiting area for the public.”
