RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS
Happening on 11th – 13th March from 10 am – 3 pm at Common Ground Bedok, Daughters Of Tomorrow aims to break the bias in our workspaces and empower both employers and employees to relook at our workplace practices. Here are 5 reasons why you should head down to Daughters Of Tomorrow : IWD 2022 Roundtable discussions :
#1 Workers and Reasonable Living Wage
Stubborn inequality in the average wages persists in all countries and across all sectors. In Singapore, about 30% of working households do not earn enough to meet these needs. An October 2021 study conducted by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy shared that S$2,906 is a “reasonable” starting point for a living wage in Singapore. A family of four needs at least $6,426 a month to afford a basic standard of living. A family of two, with a single parent and a toddler or preschooler needs $3,218 a month.
During the panel discussion, panelists will discuss the living wage parameters and implications; its implementation in Singapore; and steps to ensure a living wage and wage/class inequality in Singapore.
#2 Large gap remains : Women Continue to Work Double Shift at Home
While women face inequality in the world of work, they also face inequalities in the home. In Singapore, just like in many other countries around the world, women do three times as much unpaid care work as men. Panelists will discuss the gendered division of labour and care work; the needs of caregivers overlooked, and how we can alleviate the burden on caregivers.
#3 The digital gap Keeps Women Offline And Away From The Opportunities The Internet Provides
Failure to ensure women have equal access to the internet hampering developing economies and fuelling gender inequality. Panelists will discuss how the COVID19 pandemic has exacerbated the digital exclusion of low-income families and explore ways for ensuring that digital access is universal.
#4 Various Purposeful Workshops To Nourish Yourself
After spending your morning with insightful panels, it’s time to reflect and recoup through purposeful workshops. Engage and have hands-on workshops, from purposeful art dialogue sessions to mindfulness journeys through guided meditation. Besides that, you can also join the Gong Yoga practice that combines a slow yoga flow and gong meditation for an experience of deep release and relaxation.
#5 Connect with Like-minded professionals Advancing Gender Equality in Singapore
