A recent study titled “Southeast Asia’s Aviation Sector: Post-Pandemic Strategies and the Implications of a Rapid Recovery” has painted an optimistic outlook for the region’s aviation industry. According to the study, it is projected that the sector could recover up to 90% of its pre-pandemic capacity by the end of 2023. However, the journey towards full recovery may face significant challenges in terms of fleet and manpower constraints.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is organizing two webinars to discuss key findings from the study, explore strategies, and shed light on the implications of the aviation sector’s rapid recovery.

Webinar  1 : Southeast Asia Aviation Market Recovery Strategies And Recommendation 

The first webinar will delve into the strategies required to stimulate market recovery within the Southeast Asian aviation sector. It will incorporate recommendations derived from the study, aiming to identify effective measures to support the industry’s rebound. Topics of discussion will include the current status of ASEAN multilateral air transport agreements, the potential future role of the ASEAN Secretariat in the aviation sector, aviation infrastructure issues, improving intra-Southeast Asia connectivity, the emergence of India as a significant growth market, potential new source markets, new travel patterns, domestic network development, the current regulatory environment, and the growing importance of cargo.

Webinar  2 : SOuthEast Asia Aviation Market Rapid Recovery and Implications

The second webinar, also organized by the ADB, will focus on the rapid recovery observed in the aviation sector over the past year and its implications for the industry’s future. Presenting an update on the sector’s progress, the webinar will explore aspects such as passenger traffic recovery, revenue recovery and profitability, the current high yield environment, manpower challenges, maintenance, repair and overhaul concerns, fleet and capacity constraints, and supply chain issues. Keynote speakers Brendan Sobie and Edward Clayton, co-authors of the study, will provide valuable insights, followed by a panel discussion featuring experts from the Southeast Asian aviation industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session, gaining deeper understanding of the recovery process and its implications.
