Recycling Pioneers Recognized at Plastics Recycling Awards India

Six pioneers in plastics recycling were celebrated at the inaugural Plastics Recycling Awards India, held at the NESCO Bombay Exhibition Center (BEC)
Mumbai, India – Six pioneers in plastics recycling were celebrated at the inaugural Plastics Recycling Awards India, held at the NESCO Bombay Exhibition Center (BEC) on December 5. The awards, presented during the inaugural edition of PRS India, recognize outstanding achievements in the Indian plastics recycling industry, spanning innovation, sustainability, and community integration.

Trailblazers in Plastics Recycling

The award for Best Community Efforts for Recycling was presented to Karnataka-based Hasiru Dala, a non-profit organization committed to integrating waste pickers into the recycling value chain. Accepting the award, Bianca Fernandes, IEC Manager & Policy Advocate for Hasiru Dala, highlighted the significance of acknowledging the essential role waste pickers play in the recycling sector.
“This award honors the dedication and hard work of waste pickers in the recycling sector,” Fernandes said, emphasizing their integral contribution to sustainability.
Go Rewise by Ganesha Ecosphere earned the title of India’s Best Plastics Recycling Company of the Year for its transformative impact on the industry. The company recycles approximately 180,000 metric tons of post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET waste annually into high-end products such as polyester fibers and yarns for apparel, as well as circular food-grade PCR PET for packaging.
Their efforts exemplify how recycling can drive sustainable innovation in industries ranging from fashion to food packaging.
For its breakthrough in sustainable packaging, the Pashupati Group won the Recycled Plastic Packaging Product of the Year award. The judges praised the company’s BOPP laminated bags for addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging solutions across diverse industries.
The award for Recycled Plastic Product of the Year went to Domo Engineering Plastics India Pvt Ltd for its recycled polyamide, Technyl 4Earth, used in fan and shroud applications for Tata Toyo and TACO Group. The product was lauded for its technical excellence, aesthetic appeal, and sustainable benefits.
 
“OEMs are demanding sustainable solutions, and we are happy to introduce these products,” said Yogesh L. Chavan, Application Engineer at Domo Engineering Plastics, reflecting the industry’s growing commitment to sustainable innovation.
The Technology and Innovation Award recognized Ishitva Robotic Systems Private Limited for its patented SUKA®️ Single Stream Recycling (SSR) Solution. This advanced sorting technology uses robotics to eliminate impurities and sort various polymers by type, color, grade, and even brand. The system enhances efficiency and cleanliness in recycling, setting a new standard for the industry.
Th Plastics Recycling Ambassador Award was bestowed upon Kishore Vajipeyajula, co-founder and CEO of Banyan Nation, for his significant contributions to professionalizing India’s plastics recycling industry.
 
“Banyan’s facility proves high-quality recycling can be done at scale in India while remaining socially and environmentally responsible,” said Mani, a jury member. Banyan Nation is also expanding into flexible plastics and investing in technology to streamline informal supply chains, making recycling systems more resource-efficient.
The Plastics Recycling Awards India showcased the ingenuity, innovation, and dedication of the nation’s recycling leaders. By celebrating these achievements, the awards underscore the potential of the Indian plastics recycling sector to drive sustainability and economic growth, setting benchmarks for the global industry.
