By leveraging ES Group’s technical expertise in carbon project development and YAKOPI’s proven community-based conservation approach, the collaboration aims to enhance carbon offset opportunities while empowering local communities
KUCHING, February 21 — In a significant step forward for Southeast Asia’s sustainability landscape, Sarawak-based startup Evolving Brilliance Technologies Sdn Bhd (EB Tech) announced a strategic partnership with Yayasan Konservasi Pesisir Indonesia (YAKOPI) to enhance carbon credit efforts across Indonesia.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

Nature-Based Solutions to Boost Carbon Sequestration

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Jakarta on February 15, EB Tech’s sustainability arm, Evolving Sustainability Group (ES Group), will collaborate with YAKOPI to launch extensive carbon credit projects. These initiatives will focus on ecosystem restoration and conservation in Sulawesi and Pulau Nias, deploying methods like mangrove restoration, afforestation, agroforestry, and wetland conservation.
According to an official statement, these nature-based solutions (NBS) are expected not only to significantly increase carbon sequestration and mitigate coastal erosion but also to integrate sustainable agricultural practices into local economies.
“By leveraging ES Group’s technical expertise in carbon project development and YAKOPI’s proven community-based conservation approach, the collaboration aims to enhance carbon offset opportunities while empowering local communities,” the joint statement highlighted.
Going beyond mere environmental outcomes, YAKOPI has planned initiatives such as alternative livelihood programs for retired fishermen, sustainable palm sugar production, waste upcycling, mangrove batik painting, and comprehensive training programs in conservation and sustainable resource management.

A Growing Influence in Southeast Asia’s Carbon Market

Enhancing the project’s rigor, the University of Malaya (UM) has joined this partnership, contributing expertise in carbon accounting, feasibility studies, and ongoing project monitoring. UM’s participation ensures alignment with international carbon credit standards through scientific validation and data-driven methodologies.
EB Tech, established in Sarawak, has seen rapid regional growth, launching successful sustainability initiatives in Thailand, Taiwan, and now Indonesia. This latest partnership underscores the dynamic role Malaysian startups are playing in the global decarbonization movement, positioning Sarawak as a significant regional hub for innovative green solutions.
“This partnership represents an exciting step forward in scaling sustainable carbon projects across Southeast Asia,” said Moses L. Vinsien, Chief Executive Officer and Director of ES Group. “With EB Tech’s expertise, YAKOPI’s community engagement, and UM’s academic backing, we are building a framework for long-term environmental and social impact.”

As international attention intensifies on climate change solutions, EB Tech’s collaborative model offers a compelling blueprint: one where environmental stewardship is not only feasible but beneficial for local communities, economies, and the global climate alike.
