In the heart of Bangkok, Museum Siam’s “Fast Fashion Crushes Our Planet” isn’t just an exhibition—it’s a movement. Dive deep, be provoked, and walk out with more than just style—walk out with purpose.
There’s no escaping it. ‘Fast fashion’ has been a buzzword circulating our spheres for years, and for a damn good reason. We’re talking quick trends, cyclic wardrobes, and those sultry glances from a shop window that say, “Wear me just once and toss me away!” But beneath the shimmering sequins, what’s the real cost of this here-today-gone-tomorrow fashion?

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

Mr. Rames Promyen, tthe Director General of the National Discovery Museum Institute, unveiled that Museum Siam decided to spotlight the environmental onslaught caused by our relentless fast fashion obsession. Let’s cut through the jargon. While we’ve made bank with fashion, we’ve also been trash-talking our planet. Case in point? The mind-boggling 39,000 tons of unsold, non-biodegradable, chemical-laden clothes thrown away like yesterday’s news in Chile’s Atacama Desert. And here’s the kicker, this garment wasteland isn’t unique to Chile; it’s a global monstrosity.
Diving into the grim stats, garment production now racks up a whopping 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions and guzzles 20% of the world’s wastewater. Water, that life-giving elixir, is being drained by fashion at an alarming rate. Did you know a single pair of jeans gulps down 7,500 liters of water? Yep, that’s the equivalent of downing 5,000 large water bottles.
