Indonesia to Finalize Green Electricity Export Agreement to Singapore at ISF 2024.
The Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 is poised to be a landmark event for Indonesia’s ambitions in the renewable energy sector, as the country prepares to pave the way for exporting green electricity to Singapore. The initiative, centered around solar power, represents a significant step towards enhancing regional collaboration in sustainable energy.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

A New Chapter for Regional Green Energy Cooperation

Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, announced that ten agreements are expected to be finalized during the ISF 2024, including a substantial deal involving the export of renewable electricity to Singapore.
“One of the major agreements involves granting conditional licenses for the transfer of electricity to Singapore, potentially worth billions of US dollars,” Rachmat said during a press conference in Jakarta on August 29, 2024. He noted that several Indonesian companies have already received conditional approvals to supply electricity to Singapore, marking a critical preliminary step towards obtaining full conditional licenses from the Singaporean government.

Targeting 2027 for First Green Electricity Exports

The project aims to commence the export of green electricity by 2027. To meet this ambitious target, developers are currently planning the necessary infrastructure, including the installation of undersea cables and the establishment of manufacturing facilities for solar modules and related equipment.
Rachmat stressed the importance of using domestically produced materials for this initiative, including solar modules, panels, and batteries made in Indonesia. “This project must utilize components produced within Indonesia, which aligns with our broader goal of boosting the domestic manufacturing industry, particularly in the renewable energy supply chain,” he said.

Boosting Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Manufacturing Sector

This initiative is not just about fostering energy cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore; it is also a strategic move to enhance Indonesia’s renewable energy manufacturing capabilities. By focusing on domestic production, the project aims to strengthen the country’s position in the global renewable energy market.
“This initiative not only aims to foster regional energy cooperation but also seeks to bolster Indonesia’s renewable energy manufacturing sector,” Rachmat concluded. The ISF 2024 thus represents a critical platform for advancing Indonesia’s green energy agenda, setting the stage for a more sustainable and economically robust future.
With these developments, Indonesia is not only taking a step towards reducing its carbon footprint but also positioning itself as a key player in the region’s green energy landscape. As the country gears up for ISF 2024, the eyes of the world will be on Jakarta, watching as it charts a new path for renewable energy exports in Southeast As
