Bali Life Foundation  

Bali life foundation saves children in Bali from a life of poverty. It a small charity with a big heart. Bali Life provides love and care to those in Bali who are disillusioned and disadvantaged, with the aim of giving them hope, dignity and purpose. They do this by running various projects, a children’s home, a street kids project, a women’s center, a sustainability project and an education project.  

 

Stop Project   

Stop Project uses a “system enabler” approach in which a team of experts in waste management, plastic recycling, organics management, behavior change, and program governance help a city design and then implement a low-cost waste management system in which all households and institutions benefit from collection, and plastics are kept out of the environment.

Founded in 2007, Recotech Inc. is a waste management consulting company in Japan.  Recotech advises companies and governments in waste management solutions, sells environmental management products and services, and develops IT solutions using blockchain and apps. Recotech recently launched a mobile app called GOMiCo that maps waste generation and management.

 

Habataku Inc. is a company for education and HR training, established by ex-IBM Business consultants. Besides the education field, Habataku has been engaged in the regional revitalization in Akita, Japan. Habataku has been trying to transform Akita, the population of which is rapidly decreasing and aging, into a more sustainable community by connecting people and re-designing learning and living environments for people of various ages.

PKP Community Center (formerly known as KIM WOmen’s Centre) has an overall goal to facilitate female empowerment and gender equality to Balinese women and girls in the local area. PKP Community Center empowers women by facilitating job skills training and support programs like cooking and English class. But most importantly, the women’s center provides a safe haven for divorced women who are generally highly stigmatized and ostracized in the community. Also, job training helps families who feel stressed due to financial difficulties.

Bali does not have a waste processing plant. Inevitably, much of the trash that has been generated here for the past 40 years are said to have ended up here. There are extremely impoverished slum communities beside the waste dump making a living by collecting waste. Bali Life Foundation runs an informal school and playground for children that do not have the opportunity to attend school, as well as skill-based courses for women living near the site. The dumpsite area is approximately 32 hectares in total, of which 22 hectares will be covered with soil for future ecopark (scheduled to open in October 2019), and 10 hectares will be left uncovered for waste-to-energy facilities.

In September 2015 the village embarked on new efforts to improve the lives of all its residents. The Tourism Village Program, which was launched to attract visitors, offers a chance to see first-hand how life in the real Bali is, to allow visitors to be immersed in the lives and the culture of the local residents and to improve the quality of life for all villagers socially and economically. At the same time local leaders within the village began to launch environmental improvement plans that consisted of green initiatives. During a 2018 visit to this village by some of our founders, they were captivated by the efforts of a few locals trying to make a sustainable change and believed they could assist with their current and future efforts.
