Over the past five years, Enviu Zero Waste has developed around 9 startups and solutions focused on preventing single-use plastic. One of
them is Alner, a startup offering a digital-based refill system for daily essentials like soap, shampoo, and detergent, using reusable and refillable packaging for both retail and hospitality customers.
Jakarta — The plastic waste crisis continues to threaten Indonesia’s environmental future. Of all the plastic waste generated nationally, only around 7% can be effectively recycled. The majority ends up in landfills, incinerators, or polluting the land and sea. This fact shows that recycling alone is not enough — we need upstream interventions, preventing waste from the source through reuse systems and shifts in
consumption patterns.

RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

In response to this challenge, Enviu, through its Enviu Zero Waste initiative, has built a reuse ecosystem in Indonesia together with entrepreneurs, local communities, and government stakeholders. Over the past five years, Enviu Zero Waste has developed around 9 startups and solutions focused on preventing single-use plastic. One of them is Alner, a startup offering a digital-based refill system for daily essentials like soap, shampoo, and detergent, using reusable and refillable packaging for both retail and hospitality customers.
Through its systemic and inclusive approach, Enviu Zero Waste has successfully prevented more than 949,600+ single-use plastic items from polluting the environment. This achievement is highlighted in the newly published Enviu 2024 Impact Report, available for download here
This progress was made possible through close collaboration with government and community partners. In April 2024, Alner — one of Enviu’s startups — launched Jakarta’s first reuse store, officiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Jakarta Environmental Agency as a concrete step to introduce reuse
practices in the retail sector. During the event, Fazri Putranromo from KLHK’s Waste Management Directorate stated: “Ministerial Regulation No. 75 of 2019 on the Reduction of Single-Use Plastics still needs to be adapted. One of its main focuses is promoting 3R practices, including reuse.”
In December 2024, Enviu also partnered with the Jakarta Office for Cooperatives and SMEs (Dinas PPKUKM) to host a Jakpreneur SME workshop on reuse, providing sustainability training and supporting local businesses to adopt refill and reuse models.

“System change doesn’t happen overnight or top-down. It’s about co-creating solutions with local communities, listening to their challenges, and building ventures that truly meet real-world needs. That’s what we do at Enviu,”
