RELEVANT SUSTAINABLE GOALS

The Sahas Foundation’s Campaign On Education

Sahas Foundation is  organizing a three-day event as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. Based on our two years of work with girls and women in the village of Khushipura, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, we are focusing on the issues of Education, Health, and Livelihood. This program will be organised from 2nd Dec till 5th Dec.
Sahas Foundation campaign against gender-based violence via education
On the first day, we will be meeting District officials at NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission), Education and Health Ministers. There’s a clear gap between Government policies and implementation of the same in the village. By working together, we hope to bridge this gap.

On the second day, the District Head at NRLM will facilitate a capacity-building workshop for women in SHG (self-help group). Sustainable Livelihood is an issue women face in villages, so we hope that women learn various livelihood options through this workshop. On the program’s third and final day, we will organize a Taekwondo training session for girls. Over the last two years, girls in the village have started playing football and participating in sports competitions; with our knowledge-building workshops on gender issues, this Taekwondo session is a step forward in providing them with a life skill that can empower them to challenge gender-based violence. Many girls face eve teasing, street harassment, sexual abuse, etc., on their way from home to school. This has been one of the reasons for the rising dropout rates of girls in school. So, we hope this session can start learning to challenge gender-based violence.
