Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is celebrated on October 15 every year to raise awareness, understanding, and commitment to promoting handwashing as an affordable and effective way to prevent diseases. The importance and cross-cutting benefits of hand hygiene mean we must continue advocating for hand hygiene as a critical, health-improving practice.
Access to hand hygiene is a multifaceted issue that involves stakeholders at all levels, including individuals and communities at the local level, as well as governments and NGOs at the national/international level. GHD’s theme this year is “Unite for Universal Hand Hygiene,” which emphasizes the need for all stakeholders to work together to achieve effective hand hygiene.
